Friends at the Lake

We had surprisingly good weather at the lake this weekend and good company. Cory, LeeAnn and Gavin were up with Jada and aunty Diane. Bonnie, Brian and Grace, Helen, Sarah and Andrew joined us Friday night and Saturday. The kids played on the swings as usual and went for a boat ride. We sat around the fire until fairly late. Saturday the kids played some more and enjoyed one more boat ride before our guests had to leave. Saturday evening Greg, Jill and Sawyer drove out and had dinner with us. Sawyer had his very first boat ride and dipped his foot in the lake. Hailey went for a swim in the lake but found it a wee bit too cold. Cory took the kids for a spin in the wagon before Sawyer had to head home. It was a teary good bye but we were pleased he enjoyed the day. Sunday we strung up a rope with foil pans and blue flag tape on the deck to try to deter the pooping birds. This was the second weekend in a row that we spent over 2 hours cleaning up. Hopefully we can keep them off while we are away this week.

Sunday afternoon we headed home fairly early. We had lots to do at home for the week and were already a bit behind on housecleaning. Sunday night I started making invites for Hailey's party. They turned out cute but made a sparkly mess of me and my office. Monday Darcy and I spent our lunch our delivering invites on our bikes. It was nice out and the exercise was great. Tuesday afternoon Hailey and I had a dentist appointment. It went well. Shortly after my cleaning started off she went to another seat and happily had her teeth cleaned and polished. When she returned she announced that her teeth were shiny and she showed me her fancy pink toothbrush and pink floss. She explained her responsibilities to the dentist as he examined my teeth and chuckled and she assured him that not only does she share, keep her hands to herself and be respectful, she also brushes her teeth 2 times a day. Tuesday evening and Wednesday I packed for my trip. It is hard to plan for the unexpected and pack lightly so I spent a lot of time worrying that I had too much or too little.

Dylan has entered the biting phase which hopefully won't last. He has also been chewing blankets and his fingers so maybe there are some new teeth on the way. He has changed quite a bit in the last few weeks. His hair has filled in, he is taller, stronger and indepedent. He is no longer a wobbly tot, he fast and stable and always on a mission. He is more deliberate with his chatter and says chees when he 'cheers' with his cup. He has tantrums when he gets mad and no longer is a crazy guy in the tub. He is more distracted by the toys and doesn't flop around like a fish. We decided Monday night to push Dylan to sleep through the night so when he woke at 3am for his bottle we comforted repeatedly for an hour and a half until he finally went back to sleep. The nights that followed were better but he is still missing it.

The kids are great this week. Hailey has had many good days at the day home, working hard on her responsibilities.
